The Truth
Chapter Five

Rumiko Takahashi owns Inu Yasha. I don't! There, short and to the
point!
Kagome stared at the figure in the doorway, her mind going in
circles. What on earth was going on here? Was that...Inu Yasha that
was standing in the doorway? It couldn't be...Inu Yasha was standing
right next to her. Wasn't he? Kagome glanced at the hanyou next to
her, who was in a defensive stance, and glaring at the mirror image of
him.
"Who the hell are you?" He growled, standing before Kagome,
trying to shield her from what he thought was a new menace. What was
this creature that looked like him and smelled like him? Could it be a
reincarnation of himself like Kagome? Feh. It was impossible! This
creature was him...he was sure of it.
"Stop growling. Was I really this immature?" The figure
stepped more clearly into the light, prayer beads swinging around his
neck, his sword by his side.
Kagome stared. She knew the beads around his neck, and she
knew that way to prove if this really was a form of Inu Yasha or not.
The prayer beads were spelled only for him...not any other creature
that wore them...although it would have been nice to toss a pair
around Naraku's neck and pound him into the ground a few thousand
times.
"Osuwari!" Both figures promptly smacked the ground, and
Kagome knelt near the one she knew, and patted his head awkwardly.
"Gomen ne, Inu Yasha. I had to see if that other Inu Yasha was really
an Inu Yasha...I mean..." Her voice trailed off. Even though she knew
both were Inu Yasha...the question was HOW were they both Inu Yasha.
What was going on?
Inu Yasha beside her sighed, knowing Kagome's reasons had to
be good, but she wished that she had warned him beforehand! It hurt
hitting the ground like that.
The other Inu Yasha growled into the floor, his face hidden by
his hair. "I should have been expecting this. It's been so damn long,
though..."
Kagome looked at him. "What do you mean? Are you really Inu Yasha?
Does this have anything to do with what my grandpa was saying earlier?
Are you something that he cooked up? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?"
Kagome took a deep breath as both of the Inu Yasha's stared at
her. "What?" She snapped. "I have been through Hell lately, and you
stare at me like I'm supposed to take this calmly?"
The demon's sat up slowly, both rubbing their heads in an
identical fashion. "Oi, Kagome... let me just say that you haven't
changed..."
Kagome stared at him, the new Inu Yasha... or was he the old
one? Her brain started to hurt. "Me? You mean that I'm..." Kagome
trailed off, not sure that she wanted to hear if she was alive or
dead. It would be terribly disconcerting to find out that she was
dead...when she was still very much alive.
"You're alive, Kagome. The Shikon no Tama kept you alive all
these years. We've been away for a long time... we didn't realize that
you would be here at this time when we came back. Most of the time
when we came back you were already in the Sengoku Jidai period."
"Eh?" Kagome couldn't think of a more intelligent response as
Inu Yasha calmly rattled this off to her.
Inu Yasha sighed. "I don't think this was supposed to happen, because
I don't remember it happening. What happened to keep you here this
time, and actually show each other that you cared for each other?"
Inu Yasha growled. "If you are me, then you know why! And
what's all this...'it's about time' crap? You act like it's all so
easy for us...you...me...whatever... to say to Kagome anything close
to my feelings for her!"
Kagome stared at the two demons, and started to edge away
from them both. This was all Yuka's fault! If she hadn't insisted on
staying...on finding out things... this never would have happened!
This mess never would have occurred! She was still be perfectly
sane...not seeing two of the same demon that she was in love with
starting each other down!
"Just what in all world is going on?" Everyone's head turned
towards the doorway where a confused looking Shippou was looking
between the two Inu Yasha's and the dazed Kagome.
Kagome sighed. "This is going to be a long night. Inu Yasha...
uh... Inu Yasha...let's go back to Jii-chan and Yuka. I'm sure they
are wondering what is going on. I can't wait for Yuka to see this."
The last remark was muttered low and full of enough sarcasm
to taste. Inu Yasha and Inu Yasha winced, and Shippou looked amused.
"The only thing that would make this better would be for Kikyo
to appear." Two fists came down on the unsuspecting kitsune's head,
leaving Shippou dazed on the floor as the rest of the group walked
back to the shrine.
Yuka's eyes narrowed at the girl sitting on the edge of the
couch. "So...you are Kagome? The one that is mentioned in your
grandfather's scrolls?"
The girl...Kagome...nodded. "Hai, I am. Yuka...don't you
recognize me? I know it's been a long time..." Yuka stared at her.
"How long has it been for you, Kagome? I mean... you look the
same as you did... a little... I mean..."
Yuka was horribly confused. What was going on? Talking fox demons...
her friend Kagome a girl from the history books...a dog demon... and
now this girl who was Kagome...but not Kagome...but was Kagome from
the past...or was it the future?
"Look... don't you have a different name by now? Any moment
now you are going to walk through the door..." Kagome gave her a look
that stopped her cold.
"WHAT? I'm here now, too? Oh, this isn't going to be good....
Crap... How is it that we came at the wrong time? Inu Yasha should
have dragged me through the well by now...what in the world delayed
him?"
"Your friend did, Kagome." Yuka looked at the doorway and
fainted, everything finally becoming too much for her.
Kagome was a close second as she stared at a girl who was who
she was. It was like Kikyo, only stranger because this girl was her,
and not an incarnation of her. Around her neck was the complete Shikon
no Tama, and it was vibrating strangely with the piece of the jewel
that Kagome wore around her own neck.
"So...it's true...we really do collect the whole jewel?"
Kagome looked hopefully at this girl.
"Yes, we do...but you weren't supposed to find out! It would
only leave you all too confident! Especially him!"
The Kagome pointed towards the two squabbling Inu Yasha's,
who stopped in their yelling to stare at the two Kagome's.
"What did I do, bitch?" It was a remark made in unison,
making the younger Kagome's eyes spin. It was a most difficult day
for her. She thought that finding her name in the history books was
strange. But staring at her friend passed out of the floor, her
grandfather staring at the four of them like they were a gift sent
from heaven, and then her twin, and the two Inu Yasha's... it was most
certainly the strangest thing that ever happened to her.
"Excuse me..." She said softly. "I understand that we aren't
supposed to know anything. I know that Inu Yasha is so overconfident
anyways; a little more hope to bolster him wouldn't hurt. But may I
ask WHY IN ALL THE HELLS ARE YOU HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?"
Kagome's eyes were blazing and the Inu Yasha's cowered, and
the Kagome beside her even looked a little startled at the angry
outburst.
"I have had enough! I don't care about how much stranger my
day could be. You..." She turned to look at Kagome... "Go back to
where you came from! You of all people should know how frustrating
this is to me! And you..." She turned a full force glare on the older
looking Inu Yasha, who was cowering on the floor. "You go with her. I
will deal with ALL of you later, AFTER I have had time to recover
from the FIRST shock that was given to me. All of you... OUT!" Kagome
stood up, trembling in anger, and pointed everyone, (except her own
Inu Yasha) out the shrine door. When the other one wouldn't move,
Kagome screamed.
"OSUWARI!" Both of the Inu Yasha's fell to the ground...
although one was closer to it then the other, and it didn't hurt
quite as bad. Kagome booted the other one out the door, not too hard
of a task since he was immobile anyways.
Inu Yasha stared at the towering Kagome in front of him. He
hadn't even done anything himself! He hoped that she wasn't going to
blame him for anything.
To his surprise, the battle aura faded away and Kagome sat
limply on the carpet beside him.
"What a day, eh, Inu Yasha? This makes fighting Naraku seem
almost as easy as fighting the centipede mononoke."
Inu Yasha looked at her out of the corner of his eye, before
the spell wore off and he was cautiously able to sit closer to Kagome
and pat her on the back.
"It is a lot...gomen ne if I made it harder on you, Kagome."
He turned his face away, not used to apologizing to Kagome. He could
probably count of his fingers the number of times he said he was
sorry to her...the first time after he was almost killed by his older
brother... he grimaced at the memory.
"Anyways...Kagome...can we just escape the loonies? I mean...
your friend here might think it's all a dream she had...if we leave
now..."
They both stared at Yuka, still sprawled out on the floor,
and Shippou sitting on her stomach. "I think so, too...but what of
those...uh.... twins of us that are out there? Are they really us,
Inu Yasha?"
Inu Yasha his head, shrugging. "I don't know WHAT to think,
Kagome. Just think of this. Even if it is not, whoever they are gave
us that small measure of hope that we will win..."
Outside the home, Inu Yasha glared at Kagome. "This is all
your fault. Bah. If you hadn't gotten so mad, they would know by now
that we are going to lose. That if they don't hurry and realize
things...that we don't hurry and realize things..."
Kagome put a finger to his lips and smiled. "They'll realize
it. Let's just hope they realize it soon."
Her blue-gray eyes were troubled, and she let Inu Yasha hold her
while she trembled at the prospect of what the past had to offer...
and what could change if the right choice wasn't made.
And that's the end of that chapter! Uh...did I confuse you
all too much? Gomen ne if I did! Laz got a little too carried away
for her own good...
